Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) This paper surveys design technologies for motion estimator and LSI architecture which are the significant design themes for implementation of a current MPEG2 encoder LSI. For motion estimator design, we present effective technologies for decreasing operating time and IO rates and improving video quality. We also point out problems in chip implementation. For chip architecture design, we summarize the advantages and disadvantages of wire-logic base and processor base structures and compare current MPEG2 LSIs from the stand point of structure.
