Abstract(in English) We have developed adaptive search-window motion estimation in order to produce single-chip MPEG-2 MP@ML encoder LSIs. The adaptive search-window motion estimation adaptively determines the size, form, and location of the search window with the previously-estimated motion vectors. In order to handle the complicated search window form, which is necessary for the hardware implementation of the adaptive search-window motion estimation, we have also designed a high-efficiency pipelined motion estimation engine. This paper describes the adaptive search-window motion estimation and the pipeline signal flow of the motion estimation engine.
