Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) A small, low-power CMOS absolute difference accumulator array LSI was designed for future wireless video communication. Picture quality of a full-search algorithm using MSB of a pixel datum (1bit-FSA) is sufficient for video telephony, video conferencing, etc, although decoded picture quality is slightly lower than that of a conventional full-search algorithm (8bit-FSA). The 1bit-FAS was used to build a two-stage pipeline 0.6μm-CMOS absolute difference accumulator array LSI. Number of FETs and power dissipation of this array were drastically reduced to 18,401 and 121 mW at supply voltage of 2.5 V operationg at 81 MHz by factor of 13 and 51 those of the 8bit-FSA, respectively.
