Abstract(in English) SENSEVAL-2 is the second evaluation exercise for Word Sense Disambiguation programs. This paper describes two Japanese tasks in SENSEVAL-2: a dictionary task and a translation task. The dictionary task defined word senses according to a Japanese dictionary; the translation task defined word senses according to translation distinction. Test documents were newspaper articles in both tasks. The number of instances for evaluation was 10, 000 in the dictionary task and 1, 200 in the translation task. 7 systems of 3 organizations and 7 systems of 5 organizations participated in the dictionary/translation tasks respectively.
