Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) In this paper, we propose an anaphora resolution method for one type of "Anaphora by Inference", in which an anaphoric word refers to the entities generated by a sentence. We investigated the occurrence of this type of anaphora in some textbooks related to Natural Science. From the investigation, we found that the anaphora is a kind of ellipsis-the antecedent is just omitted from the surface structure, but, still exist in the deep or semantic structure. Compensating the omitted object in the symbolic expression, which corresponds to the semantic structure, allows us to handle the anaphora with a traditional anaphora resolution method. Based on this idea, we developed an anaphora resolving system and tested it's performance for 23 sample sentences. As a result, 14 (60.9%) are correctly resolved.
