An Analysis of Language-Picture Correspondence in Mathematical Drill Texts

Abstract(in English) A Cooperative understanding system of natural language and picture expression in first grade mathematical drill texts is being developed.This system consists of a number of intepreting modules corresponding to components of the text.Each module attempts to interpret the text component using a variety of knowledge modules based on the structural and semantic features of that component.Modules communicate with each other if necessary. This paper summarizes the distributed understanding system. presents a method of representing the structure at any level from the character strings or primitive pictures to the interpretation, and discusses a few points about the interrelationship between such representations.The problem sentence is described by the case structure,and the problem picture by pictu re descriptive structure.The command sequence for problem solving of the text are finally generated by coreference of the case structure and picture descriptive structure.
