Generation of Metaphorical Expressions using Surface Similarity and Emotional Evaluation between word concepts

Abstract(in English) Many metaphorical expressions are used in natural language sentences.Since understanding metaphor is important in both engineering and cognitive science points of view,various models are proposed.Kusumi,for example,discussed the model in which metaphor is recognized by difference of category and similarity of emotional and sensory meaning.By following Kusumi′s model,the auth ors of this paper have developed the generation system of metaphorical expressions. This system uses the dictionary contains 20 surface characteristics(e.g.shape,color,and size)and 20 emotional evaluations(e.g.likes-and-dislikes,importance,and loveliness)for each word,which Kusumi′s emotional and sensory meaning is divided into.The system first computes the similarity scores between two word concepts with each of the surface characteristics and the emotional evaluations,and combines them.Then the lowest word is chosen as a metaphorical expression.In this paper,the generation system and the result of experiments,which uses 145 words dictionary,are discussed.
