| Abstract(in English) | Toward the realization of a natural language understanding system for clinical rebords,the authors have been analyzing a large amount of discharge summaries(a kind of clinical record).In the records there appear a lot of Japanese concatenated nouns on account of ellipsis.Therefore,it is very essential to the understanding system to cope with them.This paper describes a system to restore the elliptical constructions of concatenated nouns by the use of their semantic categories in accordance with Mental-Image Directed Semantic Theory.This system consists of four major processors:″Word segmentation processor″,″Restoration proc essor″,″Hierarchical relation detector″ and ″Sentence generator ′,and possesses two types of dictionary:″Word dictionary″ and ″ Hierarchy dictionary″.The former of the dictionaries assigns a sem antic category,etc.to each noun,and the latter contains the hierarchic relations among the concepts of objects(one of the semantic categories of nouns).The experimental result of the system has proved to be a fairly good success. |
