Abstract(in Japanese) | (See Japanese page) |
Abstract(in English) | Structured bilingual correspondences play a vital role in the automatic extraction of lexical knowledge and translation patterns from parallel bilingual texts. However, when dealing with languages as differnt as English and Japanese are, several obstacles arise as syntactic ambiguity and correspondence ambiguity. This paper presents a method to automatically extract structured correspondences between parallel sentences of English and Japanese. The process starts with obtaining dependency trees from parsed parallel sentences. These dependency trees are matched against each other by structural matching based on the similarity between words, where correspondences between sub-trees are considered. In structural matching the ambiguity problems mentioned above appear as non-determinism in the algorithm and they are resolved in the searching process. |
