Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) This paper discusses an inferential model of the cohesion between two utterances aiming at recognizing the relationships in dialogues. The patterns of cohesion are fairly diversified. This appears to result from two points. One is that the diversity in replies might stem from speaker′s misunderstanding. In such cases,t he replies either point out the misunderstandings or search replies which satisffy the intentions of them. The other is that they might convey some background related to the replies instead of the replies themselves so that the speaker can clearly understand the situation. On the basis o these two points,we classify a relatively wide range of cohesion of two utterances. In this classification, presupposition underlying questions play a crucial roles in the sense that they significantly affect the replies to be generated. The classification is further elaborated, leading to an overall model of cohesion of utterance which can be internal process of human dialogue participants.A formalization of the model is also discussed.
