Abstract(in Japanese) | (See Japanese page) |
Abstract(in English) | Dialects have been mainly studied from the viewpoint of sociolinguistics and folklore. This paper discusses the preliminary studies for natural language processing (NLP) of a dialect. The reasons are: 1. If a dialect maintains old Japanese style, systematic rule description would be possible. 2. A dialect grammar would introduce speech grammar because a dialect has been told for many generations. 3.Comparison of a dialect and standard Japanese makes Japanese characteristics clear, and a machine translation system between them would be useful for the study of translation. This paper describes the classification of verbs and postpositions derived from the Shonai dialect in Yamagata prefecture, and makes preparatory considerations for NLP of the Shonai dialect. |
