Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) The purpose of our research is to study the methodology of building an image data retrieval system that can accept natural language and handle subjective expressions. For that system, retrieval conditions are determined in the feature space. Though a number of color feature spaces have been proposed, any shape feature space which is generally applicable has not been proposed. In this paper we construct a shape feature space to enable the retrieval system to deal with subjective expressions on shapes. First we perform a psychological experiment and adopt Semantic Differential method for constructing a psychological feature space. Then we determine functions that map image feature values into coordinates in the feature space. We confirm that there is a high correlation between the values calculated by the functions and the values determined by the experiments.
