Abstract(in Japanese) | (See Japanese page) |
Abstract(in English) | This paper studies the fundamentals of the process of natural language comprehension based on incremental interpretation: the process of interpreting words possibly word by word as a text is read from left to right or as an utterance is heard in accordance with the appearance order of words. First, we propose a methodological principle of incremental interpretation. This principle called the principle of incremental compositionalitly, characterizes the process of an incremental interpretation. Next, in order to demonstrate how our principle works soundly we investigate the computational models of incremental interpretation which have been proposed so far. This shows that, the models are subject to our principle. |
