Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) This paper presents a mathematical theory of communication of probabilistic knowledge between a human and a computer. By interpreting knowledge described by a human as encoded data extracted from human probabilistic knowledge (we call this probabilistic knowledge the "Knowledge-Source"), the cost of encoding and the error in decoding are quantitated respectively for a length of the encoded data and for the distortion between the Knowledge-Source and decoded data. Problems in the communication of probabilistic knowledge are formalized as a problem of minimizing the cost while keeping the error within a certain limit. This paper also describes encodings and decodings between the Knowledge-Source and logical described knowledge, and the efficiency of this communication is evaluated using the cost and the error.
