Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Various methods for summarising text have already been suggested. They are categorised into two groups: one uses surface information and the other relies on semantic understanding. As technical writings have a logical structure to lead to conclusion, it is straight forward to summarise them by extracting and combining the main points using surface information. However, the same method may not be useful for tales. Because tales usually have complicated structure, such a method may break the story line and produce incorrect summaries. Thus, semantic understanding should be involved in summary production of tales. We propose a framework of summary production method based on paraphrasing episodes, and present some simulation results.
