Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) In this paper, we tested how well a text understanding system is able to perform, using just a combination of orthodox methods and 100,000 vocabulary size dictionary. Our system is directed to understand any type of text. Thus, a)It utilizes a semantic and a context analyzers which are independent to the contents of the text to be analyzed. b)It does not have any kind of domain knowledge nor any target world models, moreover it does not utilize high-level inference. We also implemented a question-answer type evaluation system, "StoryReader". This system analyzes what is written in the given short story or the article and answers the questions about the contents. The correct answer rate is 50% at best. The wrong answers are due to roughness of the dictionary and the analyzers. Then we suppose that the further improvement of them enables a text understanding system in general use.
