Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) A system architecture is presented for producing utterances in collaboration with the dialogue partner in spoken dialogue, where the dialogue participants make their utterances asynchronously. This system engages in the collaborative process of producing utterances while dealing with interjectory responses and interruptions made by the dialogue partner in mid-utterances so as to maintain the mutual understanding of exchanges in dialogue. It incrementally produces utterances which propose the solution of a given problem in task-oriented dialogue. Utterances are produced based on the discourse structure characteristic of spoken dialogues and the principles of collaborative dialogue. This incremental production strategy enables the system to suspend utterances, make utterances for maintaining the mutual understanding, and resume the suspended utterances in a timely manner according to interjectory responses and interruptions made by the dialogue partner. The principles of collaborative dialogue guarantee the relevance of discourse and the timely suspension and resumption of utterances.
