Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) We are involved in a research project aimed at achieving synoptic and approximate decision making, which human do naturally, on a computer. The project is named ABOUT, which stands for "approximate reasoning based on uncertainties". As the first step of realizing ABOUT, we constructed a large-scale knowledge base of 40,000 daily-used words, which becomes a substitute for human common-sense. In this paper, we propose some methods for solving wordplays automatically by using this knowledge base; capping associative words, solving a crossword puzzle, or guessing a riddle. We made wordplay solving systems, evaluated them, and found that these methods can realize human-like wordplays.
