Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) We propose the way of disambiguation for nouns in English newspapers' headlines using lexical cohesion of the articles. Firstly it lists up all possible meaning of every word in an article, and total them to find the tendency of lexical cohesion. Next, it calculates the plausibilities of each meaning of a noun using that tendency, and automatically choose the best meaning. To grasp the lexixal cohesion, we use WordNet thesaurus and subject code of LDOCE. In addition, our method calculates the plausibilities of each knowledge, and automatically decide which knowledge is better to disambiguate each noun. As a result, it has got 76.1% of precision and 68.0% of recall.
