| 第 1 著者 所属（和/英） | 本稿では,John and Maryのような複数の人・ものを表わす名詞が表われたときの集合的読みと個別的読みの曖眛性を取り扱う。特に、lift the pianoのように、この曖眛性を生ずるもの、つまり分配できない場合のある述語と、swimのようにこの曖眛性を生じないもの、つまり常に分配が可能な述語との差を、意味分解を用い、それぞれの述語の意味的な特徴から導き出すことを試みる。ここでは、集合的読みと個別的読みの違いを、イベント量化子と全称量化子の作用域の違いと捉え、swimに対し集合的読みを与えた場合でも、その意味的特徴から分配が可能であるのに対し、lift the Pianoの場合はそれが可能でないことを示す。 This paper is concerned with the collective/distributive ambiguity of sentences with an NP like John and Mary,Especially, we will attempt to account for the difference of predicates like lift the piano,which is said to be ambiguous between the collective reading and the distributive one,and predicates like swim, which is considered to be always distributive. We claim that the two readings arise from the scopal ambiguity of the event quantifier and a universal quantifier. We also claim that these two readings are available in general and show that, even on the collective reading,swim can be distributed because of its semantic properties. |
