Abstract(in Japanese) | (See Japanese page) |
Abstract(in English) | When we see a solid object such as a sphere or a cylinder, we cannot "see" the rear (or self-occluded) part of the object. However, we often "perceive" a solid object that has a self-occluded part, even if we only see the frontal part of the object. This perception is called volume perception. It is considered that a self-occluded part is perceived as a result of amodal completion. Recently, some psychophysical researches suggested that an interocularly unpaired region produces volume perception in binocular stereopsis. The present research measured volume perception with various widths of unpaired regions, and suggested that the visual system does not employ a simple mechanism that an existence of an unpaired region produces volume perception. |
