Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) In order to clarify the role of visual information in motor control, the authors measured eye, hand and ball movements during playing ball-juggling. Eye movements were approximately synchronized with ball movements, but their phase relation was not constant. Moreover, catching error (displacement between hand center and ball center) increased when visual information was restricted using LCD shutter eye-glasses. Especially, when players performed juggling monocularly, the error increased remarkably in depth direction, suggesting that binocular visual information was utilized for estimating the ball trajectory. The schematical model of visual information acquisition and its relation to motor control was discussed.
