| Abstract(in English) | We studied variability of visual responses of cells in the brain areas V4(visual 4,an intermediate stage of the hierarchy)and IT(inferior temporal area,the final stage for object vision)of adult macaque monkeys.V4 cells gave responses of a relatively constant magnitude to the repeated stimulation with the best stimulus.In contrast,IT cells changed their responsiveness to the repeated stimulation.We suggest that this difference in response variability would reflect the arear difference of a top -down modulation:Modulation should be quick and strong in the area IT because the meaning of an object changes according to the change in behavioral context,while such modulation might only be working during early visual experience in the area V4,the function of which seems to be the feature extraction. |
