Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Stroop interference:the word ″red″ printed in blue delays namin g its color ″blue″ by about 100 msec,is analyzed with a neural ne twork model. The model cortex is the Broca area which is an array of cortical columns. They receive projections from the Wernicke(word-processing)area and color-processing pathways.Model analysis shows(1)lateral inhibition between the columns restricts columns′ firing to the first activated ones by surpressing the oth ers before firing, which enables the area to respond in the millisecond range,but(2)the inhibition delays the processing if the two projections deliver the inconguent stimuli.
