Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) It has been suggested that visual information is fragmentarily represented in widely spaced areas of the brain, and that transitory synchronization of neuronal activities might ″bind″ th e fragments of information into coherent images. In order to experience the reality, however, properties of events and objects which are represented at the different sensory portals of the brain should be also bound together. We here describe a neural network model of the sensory binding consisted of three cell layers,E-,C- and Z-cell layers. Each E cell represents one feature of sensory information.Transitory synchronizat- ion of E cells within one sensory modality is generated by a group of C cells, representing the features being bound in entities.Entities of various sensory modalities are bound into events by the activation of Z cells whith leads to synchronize the corresponding E cells in burst by regulating E cells in burst by regulating C cells. In order to-generate the connections between C- and Encell layers from the sensory input patterns,a learning algorithm, based on the Learning Vector Quantization method is used.
