Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) The dynamical behavior of autocorrelation associative memory with forgetting which is the temporal decay of its synaptic weights is analyzed geometrically. Three types of sequence of stored vectors are analyzed. The first type of sequence is that all stored vectors which are generated independently as random vectors, The stored vectors have only very small correlation mutually. The second type of sequence is that the stored vectors has the correlation between them depending on the temporal displacement of them. The correlation of stored vectors is large when they are close temporally. The third type of sequence is the mixtured sequence generated by inserting the random vectors into the second type of sequence. In the first case, the effect of forgetting is too small to recall the sequence. In the second case, autocorrelation associative memory recalls the sequence approximately through the effect of forgetting and the correlation. This suggests that forgetting plays an important role in binding stored vectors which are away from each other temporally. In the third case, one of the interesting properties of the sequence memorization and recalling with forgetting is that, autocorrelation associative memory recalls only the sequence of the correlated stored vectors from the mixtured sequence. These results suggest that forgetting has not only the negative effect that is the decay of memory but also positive effects that are the memory. binding and the information filtering in the information processing of brains.
