Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) We have studied the properties of simple-spike (SS) and complex-spike (CS) discharges of Purkinje cells (P-cells) in the cerebellar ventral paraflocculus in monkeys during ocular following responses (OFR), elicited by a sudden movement of a lange visual field. The temporal pattern of the SS and CS firing rate that occurred during OFR can be reconstructed by an inverse-dynamics representation of eye movements : the linear combination of position, velocity, and acceleration using a generalized linear model. By using the generalized linear model, we can estimate objectively the degree of model fit by the deviance function. The SS firing represented motor related signal rather than retinal slip. The CS firing rate represented both motor and retinal slip. The SS and CS firing did not represent acceleration of the retinal slip, but represented that of the eye movement. We compared the coefficients of acceleration, velocity, position of eye movement for CS and SS firing in each P-cell. It was revealed that there were close correlation between the coefficient of the CS and SS both in the absolute value and in the sign for each cell, suggesting a close relationship between the CS and SS responses.
