Abstract(in Japanese) | (See Japanese page) |
Abstract(in English) | When a moving stimulus (test), whose direction of motion is ambiguous by itself, is juxtaposed with other stimuli (inducers) which move unambiguously in one direction, the test appears to move in the same direction as the inducers (motion assimilation). The present study demonstrates that motion assimilation occurs for 2-dimensional (divergent and rotatory) motion as well as for 1-dimensional (translatory) motion. The magnitude of motion assimilation was measured as functions of the retinal position of the test and the inducers. The results may be explained in terms of the two stimulus factors of the eccentricity of the test position and the relative distance between the test and the inducers. |
