Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) A new type or microphone has been developed for use at the 1998 Winter Olympic games in Nagano. This microphone will be embedded in the ice to pick up the sound of skaters on the ice, thus avoiding outside noise such as the cheering of spectators. It has been named the "Ice-Zone Microphone". The microphone is scheduled to be used in speedskating, short track, icehockey, the bobsled and the luge. A mixing system which automatically follows the movements of the skaters has also been developed. It mixes 40 Ice-Zone (TM) microphones burried in the ice and the microcomputer inside automatically follows the skaters.
