Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) In the actual sound environment, it is often that the objective system exhibits the non-Gaussian property, owing to physical, social and psychological factors. Many kinds of probability distribution have been proposed from various viewpoints to describe the probabilistic property of complicated random phenomena. Sometimes, a probability distribution of orthogonal series expansion type which takes the well-known probability distribution (e.g., Gaussian, Poisson distributions, etc.) as the first term and reflects the higher order statistics in the expansion terms is also utilized in many engineering fields. This paper describes a new trial to determine the optimal order of series expansion, especially from a practical viewpoint. First, we pay our attention to the deviation of the theoretically constructed cumulative probability from the experimentally observed one. Then, the well-known AIC is introduced for determining rationally the number of expansion terms. Finally, the effectiveness of the proposed method is experimentally confirmed by applying it to the actually observed road traffic noise data.
