Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) This paper discusses how the preceding or succeeding tone masks the directional information of sound for lateralization. Psychoacoustical experiments using headphone are conducted with test tone which has interaural time difference (ITD) and masker which doesn't have ITD. The level of masker is constant, while the level of test tone and inter-stimuli interval (ISI) between test, tone and masker are varied. The results of experiments show that lateralization of test tone with ITD is effected by masker, and the effect increases when the level difference is large. Moreover, the threshold on lateralization rises as ISI decreases. This phenomenon can be considered the masking effect on lateralization by the preceding or succeeding tone. In addition, the preceding tone causes the higher threshold on lateralization than the succeeding tone and the maximum level of difference is 20dB. This result shows dominace of precedence effect for sound lateralization.
