Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) In this paper, we describe a prototype of an image retreival system based on an adaptive query refinement method called ellipsoid query estimation method. Two principal ideas used in the system are Query-by-Example and relevance feedback. Given samples from the user, the system estimates the implied query based on the statistical distribution of the samples in the image feature space. We describe an estimation problem that occurs when the number of given samples are too small and propose some solution techniques. The paper reports the implementation details of the query refinement method and experimental results performed on an image database.
