Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Currently used computer map systems are developed for specific purposes such as facility management, car navigation, and so on.It is important to develop multipurpose geographic information systems to generate mapes for various objectives.Geographic databases work as kernels of the Geographic application systms. In order to specify a query for such generalpurpose geographic databases,we need to specify how to display objects as well as how to select objects. As the former is not considered in conventional systems,it is very difficult to specify a query. In this paper, the authors propose system support for the query-generation in geographic databases.Queries are stored in the database together with the processing steps, and queries which may be used to process a given query is selected. One of the major contributions of this paper is how to define similarity of queries. The system is currently being developed using an object-oriented database.
