Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) We propose indexing schemes in the context of both aggregation and inheritance hierarchies in a distributed environment. The indexing scheme is based on path expressions that specify a nested attribute. For a given path, the set of path instantiations will be divided into subsets. Each subset is an index and is placed on a separate machine in order to speedup the execution of a query by employing parallelism. Two kinds of scheme of splitting the set of inherited nested objects are newly proposed. They are called instance-based and class-based clustering. The first scheme is easy to acquire the parallelism, but the index maintenance cost is high. Conversely the second scheme is not easy to acquire the parallelism, but the maintenance cost is not high. On the first scheme, we have formulated two kinds of index operation schemes.
