Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) VRML (Virtual Reality Modeling Language) is promised to extend the current WWW (world Wide Web) hypertext space to three-dimensional computer graphics based hypermedia. This paper proposes the description language called "differential VRML" to incrementally update scene graphs that are logical models of interactive three-dimensional computer graphics scenes. The differential VRML can provide scalability, continuity, openness, and multi-user environment for 3D CG spaces under various physical limitations of our current computing environment. We discuss the usefulness and effectiveness of the differential VRML. We also present our H_2O project that is realizing and testing an application of the differential VRML using super high speed computer networks granted by NTT(Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corporation.).
