Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Visual impression may differ with each person. To provide a user- friendly interface for image database systems,it is important to design a multimedia index which can adapt to the subjective view of each user.A cognitive schema means such a subjective view dpending on each user. This paper describes learning methods of a cognitive schema for a graphical symbol database called TRADEMARK and for a full color image database called ART MUSEUM.Their learning mechanisms are based on multivariate data analyses. These algorithms construct a model of visual perception process of each user from training examples.Such a model is referred to as a multimedia index to retrieve desired images for the user.
