Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Since in broadband networks the whole contents of a database can be transferred from one site to another site in a short period, the database migration is expected to be one of the most powerful database operations in the forth coming distributed database systems. In the environment with database migration, it is necessary to develop a method to manage the location of each database for accessing migratory databases. In this paper, we first propose several database location management methods, some of which make use of the features of ATM (Asynchronous Transfer Mode) networks. Then, we compare the performance of the methods by simulation study under some system parameters, such as the frequency of query issues and database migration, and the scale of the network. As a result, we show the optimal location management method for a given system environment.
