Design and Implementation of a User Interface of a Human Communication Support System based on the Integration of Virtual Space and Real Space

Abstract(in English) In recent years, extensive studies have been done for supporting communication among those who are at long distance. In our previous papers, we have proposed an environment, called "Invisible Person", which supports such communication by integrating two technologies, i.e., the virtual reality and the mobile computing. In this paper, we propose a mechanism for reflecting spacial information of a real space, such as the location and the direction of each object in the space, on that of a virtual space. By using this mechanism, users in a real space and a virtual space can cooperate each other to achieve a work. We also propose a user interface for the mechanism, which reflects the effects of operations of an object in a real space on those in a virtual space. Moreover, our design and implementation of the system are described, which we developed based on the proposed mechanism and the interface. This system enables us to realize more real communication with other users.
