Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) We consider that echo signals of an ultrasonic diagnostic system are nonlinear responses caused by overlapping of reflective, refractive, and scattering ultrasonic waves. The goal of our study is to develop novel diagnostic indices by analyzing the echo signals using chaos theory. In this preliminary study, we have verified the chaos characteristics of the echo signals from a stationary tissue phantom. We calculated the correlation dimension and Lyapunov exponent of attractors which were embedded in the reconstructed phase space. We found that attractors exhibited quasi-periodic behavior and that their largest Lyapunov exponent were positive. Thus, these results confirmed that echo signals from a tissue phantom possess chaos characteristics.
