Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Effect of second-harmonic superimposition on sonochemical reaction was investigated. The minimum acoustic power for iodide oxidation induced by focused ultrasound at 750 kHz with a superimposed wave at 1.5 MHz using a confocal transducer was 3 times lower than that induced by ultrasound at 750 kHz or 1.5 MHz. The rate of iodide oxidation induced by plain wave ultrasound at 1 MHz with a superimposed wave at 2 MHz showed significant dependence on the phase relation between the two waves.The.largest rate was obtained at the relative phase which maximizes the magnitude of negative peak pressure. The dependence of sub-harmonic emission on the ultrasound power was studied with the same plain wave ultrasound transducer. The results also showed the synergistic effects of the fundamental and second harmonic waves.
