Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Birefringence of transparent ceramics will be changed by acoustic pressure when a sample is exposed to an ultrasonic field in liquid.A linear polarized light passing through the sample will bealso changed due to the change of birefringence. We conducted an experiment on an acoustic pressure sensor utilizing electrooptics and photoelastic effect of LiNbO_3 and PLZT,and investigated the behaver of this sensor in ultrasonic field of 40 KHz in an acoustic pressure range from,146 to 181 dB re 1μPa.Linear dependen ce of the output signal on acousti pressure was observed, and maximum sensitivity was obtained at the optical phase retardation of π, 2,which agreed with the theoretical prediction.
