Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) A solution of methyl iodide in benzene is irradiated by the third harmonic of a Q-switched YAG laser (355 nm). The efficiency of molecular iodine production is approximately four times less than that in the iodobenzene solution when the light intensity and concentration are the same, but no photoacouistic signals can be observed. The behavior is ascribed to the fact that the absorbance of methy iodide is about 25 times lower than that of iodobenzene, signifying that photodecomposition of methyl iodide leads to the production of iodine molecules at a quantum yield of nearly 100%.
