Measurement of the liquid density and viscosity by using SH-SAW sensors

Abstract(in English) This paper describes that the liquid density and viscosity by using a pair of Shear horizontal surface acoustic waves(SH-SAW) sensors with texture-and smooth-surface. Texture surface exhibits two effects;(1)Viscosity coupling effect between the oscillating surface and the liquid that depends on the product of the liquid density and viscosity. (2)Trapped liquid effect(virtual mass loading effect)that depends on the liquid density alone. Smooth surface exhibits the viscosity effect only. Combining two sensors enable the liquid density and viscosity to be extracted simultaneously. First, we derive the theoretical equation of SH-SAW sensor with texture surface. Secondly, we fabricated SH-SAW sensors with texture and smooth surface on 36° rotated Y-cut X-propagating LiTaO_3. Finally, we measured the density and viscosity of the glycerol, fructose, and glucose water mixtures.
