Preparation and Evaluation of PrBa_2Cu_3O_7 Template Layers Grown on Sapphire Substrates with CeO_2 Buffer Layers

Abstract(in English) The improvement on the superconducting properties of a- or b-axis oriented EuBa_2Cu_3O_<7-δ> (EBCO) films grown on the R-plane sapphire substrates with CeO_2 buffer layers was carried out by introducing a template layer of PrBa_2Cu_3O_7(PBCO). As the deposition rate increased, the c-axis oriented PBCO layers exhibited a tendency to change into the a-axis ones. The a-axis oriented PBCO layers were grown at R_d's above 30Å/min and T_s's of 560 -630℃. The PBCO template layers were prepared at T_s=620℃ and R_d=35Å/min. The maximum substrate temperature of a-axis oriented EBCO films grown on the a-axis oriented PBCO template layers of thicknesses above 700Å was about 30℃ higher than that on CeO_2(001) substrates. The EBCO films with a- and b-axis orientation were deposited on R-sapphire\CeO_2(001) with a-axis oriented PBCO template layers 1000Å thick at T_s=650℃ and had T_'s of about 86.7 K.
