Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) A new type of SIS mixer using junctions with SQUID-type structure was proposed and experiments were made at 100 GHz in orderto demonstrate its feasibility of mixing.Impedance transformers were integrated in a junction substrate to provide good RF matching between a source and a SQUID-type device with a small normal resistance and a large. It was shown by the experiments that a receiver composed of the SQUID-type devices and the transformers has a very flat frequency response and low noise temperature less than 40 K in the range 90-120 GHz.A minimum receiver noise temperature of 20K,which is only 5 times as large as the photon noise of hν, κ_B,was obtained near 110 GHz.It has b een verified by the experiments that the SQUID-type device can be used as an SIS mixer element with high performance.According to those results,we get a nice prospect of its extension to she submillimeter wavelengths and a confidence that it will be possible to realize high-performance submillimeter wave receivers by adopting a combination of an impedance transformer and SQUID- type SIS junctions with areas as large as those used widely in the millimeter wavelengths.
