Millimeter wave mixing with weak-link Josephson junction arrays

Abstract(in English) We have investigated weak link Josephson junction arrays for a 100GHz millimeter wave mixer. Junction arrays were fabricated from Eu_lBa_2Cu_3O_<7-x> thin films grown on MgO bicrystal substrates. Responses of the junction arrays to millimeter waves were measured using a wave guide to microstripline converter. Shapiro steps were observed in the I-V characteristics of the junction arrays by applying a 100GHz millimeter wave through the converter. The mixing intermediate frequency (IF) output in a 500MHz frequency range was obtained from the junction array injected two millimeter waves. The peaks of the IF output corresponded to the peaks of the differential resistivity dV/dI. The conversion efficiency of a 5 junction array was estimated to be -29.9dB at 574MHz IF output.
