Properties of Josephson junctions using asymmetrical bicrystal substrates

Abstract(in English) Grain boundary junctions consisting of (110) and (100) of YBa_2Cu_3O_<7-δ>(YBCO) were fabricated by using asymmetrical bicrystal MgO substrates. All of the junctions showed typical RSJ type I-V curves and Shapiro steps under microwave irradiation. Magnetic field dependence of Ic patterns (Ic-B, V-Φ patterns) showed the SQUID-like diffraction patterns which had a dip at zero magnetic field. The envelope curve of this SQUID-like pattern also had a dip at zero magnetic field. This unconventional properties are explained by existence of π-facet structure which is generated by combination between a specific facet at asymmetrical bicrystal substrates and d-wave gap symmetry. This property is consistent that the d-wave (dx^2-y^2) gap symmetry is in ab-planes of YBCO. This result shows that new applications using these artificially fabricated π-junctions may be realized.
