Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) In this paper, the method for recognition 3D objects with occluded surfaces by combining effectively parallel distributed and sequential processing is proposed This recognition system has two-stage neural networks as a parallel distributed processing. The first neural network stage is for identifying object surfaces and has p-type Fourier Descriptors. The second one is for recognizing the object by a set of aspect graphs which represent the connection among the surfaces. In case of very poor recognition caused by occlusion, the verification process is generated after the last neural network stage and then the strict matching is sequentially performed with geometric models.Experimental results show that the efficiency of recognizng objects with respect to an occlusion problem, especially self-occlusion,highly improved compared with onventional methods.
