Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) In this paper, we present a multi-agent based method for extracting characters from document images. For the adaptability, the agent is assigned a single character string. Each agent tries to find a character string and extract the characters from it using only the knowledge independent of the layout. Moreover, each agent verifies its result for the accuracy. If the result are invalid, the agent corrects its result, sometimes with the help of the other agents. From experimental results, we have verified the effectiveness of our approach.
