Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) The evolutionary computation is a computational framework that simulates the evolutinary process of life. The Genetic Algorithm, the Genetic Programming, the Evolutionary Algorithm and the Evolutionary Strategy are included in this framework. Especially, the researchers of GA and GP communities are interested in computational optimization and structure optimization. The GA and the GP are promizing for constructing a new design methodology. In this paper, first, the design problem is recognized as a system synthesis problem. From a viewpoint of system optimization, the synthesis problem is grouped into three classes. The traditional AI approach to each class and its limitations are pointed out. Then, the evolutionary approach to each class is discussed. Finally, the lens design based on the evolutionary computation is described as a case study.
